EasyDNS Leaks Contact Info of Web Domain Owners, Exposed by WHOIS Search

Domain name registrar EasyDNS recently admitted to accidentally leaking the contact details of about 1,500 domain owners in Whois query results for just over 24 hours.

However, the domain owners had reportedly paid EasyDNS to cloak their details. Nevertheless, EasyDNS CEO Mark Jeftovic said that the personal info was exposed by a bug in a system provided by Tucows – the second largest domain registrar in the world.

Jeftovic added that the vast majority of Whois lookups are automated bots and the most likely negative effect from the incident would be junk mail, junk faxes or email spam sent to your underlying contact info.
