DuckDuckGo to Use Apple Maps for Better Privacy

Privacy focused search engine DuckDuckGo announced this week that its address and map searches on mobile and desktop will now use Apple’s MapKit JS framework to provide even greater privacy for its users.

DDG says that the updated integration will make Apple Maps available both embedded within private search results for relevant queries and from the “Maps” tab on any search result page.

DDG also reiterated that it will maintain its strict privacy policy of not collecting or sharing any personal information and no personally identifiable information such as IP address will be sent to Apple or other third parties. Only the user’s approximate location information will be sent to DDG by the browser which is immediately discarded after use.
