09 Jan DuckDuckGo Accused of Fingerprinting Users
A user on the Whonix forum recently accused privacy-focused search engine DuckDuckGo of fingerprinting its users using Canvas DOMRect API which creates unique geometry measurements on target browsers.
However, DDG CEO Gabe Weinberg clarified that they have not been doing any fingerprinting or any collection or sharing of personal information, as stated in their company policy. He also said that fingerprinting-detection libraries typically show false positives since they don’t anticipate good actors using some browser APIs for non-nefarious purposes for which they were designed.
Weinberg added that they know they’ve been falsely identified because the company is developing a similar type of detection into its mobile app and browser extension.
