DICT: Privacy Issues in PNP Human Rights App Fixed

Department of Information and Communications Technology Assistant Secretary Allan Cabanlong recently told the media that privacy issues with the PNP’s “Know Your Rights” app had already been fixed.

Cabanlong said that he already talked to Chief Superintendent Dennis Siervo of the PNP HRAO and asked his office to address the privacy concerns previously pointed out by journalist Art Samaniego Jr.

The Android app will no longer ask users for access to contact logs, photos, and contacts on their devices. Cabanlong added that the prompt was part of the app’s feedback module that can be used to send feedback, but also requires the user to disclose his identity.
