09 Jun DHS Revealed to be Building US Largest Biometric, Biographic Database
According to the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the Department of Homeland Security is building a database of biometric and biographic data on both citizens and foreigners which is expected to be the largest of its kind in the US.
It is said that highly personal information and multiple forms of biometrics will be included in the Homeland Advanced Recognition Technology (HART). The EFF says the database will be shared with other federal agencies, as well as state and local authorities, and even foreign governments.
The EFF adds that the information collected by the DHS, which may reportedly be exempted from the federal Privacy Act, will vastly expand HART. In addition to this, highly subjective information such as those collected by officers during encounters may be included.
