02 Nov Democratic Senator Wants Tech Execs Jailed for Repeated Privacy Violations
Sen. Ron Wyden is reportedly pushing for lengthy prison sentences for CEOs of tech companies that repeatedly violate privacy laws.
The Oregon senators says that in his proposal, companies would be fined up to 4 percent of their annual revenue on their first privacy or cybersecurity offense, and on the second one senior executives could be sentenced to 10-20 years in prison.
Wyden says that his bill will create radical transparency for consumers, give them new tools to control their information, and back it up with tough rules with real teeth to punish companies that abuse the private information of Americans.
