Democratic Lawmakers Move Against Apps Collecting Child Data

Democratic senators Edward Markey of Massachusetts and Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut sent a letter this week to the Federal Trade Commission expressing their concern on apps that may be collecting children’s data.

The move follows a lawsuit filed by the New Mexico Attorney General against Google and other social media companies and and app makers that are being accused of violating the Child Online Privacy Protection Act.

However, New York Times reporter Edmund Lee says that the problem is that it is uncertain where the onus lies, since the law does not make it clear if the app store or the app developer should be held responsible for non-compliance.
