Deletion and Management of Social Media Accounts Now Easier in China

The Chinese government announced that it will now be easier for citizens to delete their accounts on online services such as WeChat, Taobao, and Alipay.

Such companies previously made it difficult for users to manage and delete their accounts by making their privacy policy purposefully vague and complicated. Because of this, users were forced to break website rules, or just leave their accounts open online.

However, a recent inspection done by the Cyberspace Administration of China have made ten online services and mobile apps improve their policies. Companies including WeChat, Taobao, Alipay, Didi Chuxing, JD.com, Umetrip, Baidu Map and AutoNavi now say they have simplified their privacy policies so that their users will be able to manage their accounts online easier.
