German Privacy Watchdog Gives Suggestions on Automated and Connected Cars

Andrea Voßhoff, Germany’s Federal data protection commissioner recommended that data created by autonomous and connected cars should be kept anonymous, and car users should be able to delete personal data unless there are legal explanations as to why the information should stay logged.

Andrea Voßhoff also said that users should be given complete information on how their personal data is processed, and that location data should be deleted as soon as they are no longer required. She also added the need for clear, specific rules on which data businesses can obtain the data without explicit vehicle user consent.

A total of 12 recommendations were given by Voßhoff on “automated and networked driving”.
