29 May Data of Millions of South Africans Leaked Online
It was recently reported that the personal data of 934,000 South Africans may have been leaked online, in addition to the 60 million ID numbers which had been posted publicly around last year.
According to cybersecurity expert Troy Hunt who is working with iAfrikan on the issue, the latest leak includes ID numbers, but also cell numbers, email addresses and plain text passwords.
Hunt warned that the password leak is especially serious as it may lead to attackers unlocking other accounts belonging to the victim. He also urged South Africans to check if their information had been compromised on his website, HaveIBeenPwned.
