Data of Millions of Indians Possibly Stolen from Aadhaar-linking Site

It was revealed this week that the personal information of millions of Indians may have been compromised by a breach at the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO).

A letter which was leaked on Twitter showed that data from the EPFO had been stolen by hackers who exploited the bugs in the website “aadhaar.epfoservices.com”. It is estimated that around 34.5 million users whose provident funds in the EPFO are linked with their Aadhaar data may have been affected.

However, the EPFO immediately quelled rumors and said that there had been no evidence of leakage and everything was completely secure.
