Data from 180 Million Phones Exposed by Mobile App Errors

Researchers from cybersecurity company Appthority recently issued a warning that around 180 million phones may potentially be hacked due to a coding error in 685 mobile apps.

According to Seth Hardy, Appthority’s director of Security Research, some developers accidentally coded credentials used for accessing services from Twilio Inc. This coding error can allow hackers to intercept data sent over those services.

Hardy added that the incident, which is often a common problem, highlighted the risk posed by the use of third-party services like Twilio.

Twilio responded and said that they did not find any evidence of hackers using their credentials, but they are still working with the developers to fix the issue.
