26 Jul D-ID’s Image Protection Tools Addresses Face Recognition Privacy Rows
Image protection startup DI-D has designed new technology that can render images unidentifiable to face recognition systems. The tools were developed to counter privacy concerns that arise from the use of online facial detection.
Founders Gil Perry, Eliran Kuta, and Sella Blondheim established the company in 2016, after working in the Israeli Special Forces and intelligence agencies and noticing the issues with special forces and intelligence personnel posting photos online
They wanted to share their photos without risking detection from possible threats. To help others like them, D-ID founders developed an algorithm to shield images from invasive face detection systems. It’s also a useful tool on social media for users who are wary of pictures being detected by the platform.
To date, Perry stated they will release the initial program on Cloudinary to secure over 14 billion media features. They may also launch a consumer program if more people want the technology.
