Cyber Attacks to Increase as Holidays Approach, New Report Warns

According to Carbon Black’s Holiday Threat Report which was released this week, seasonal cyberattacks are expected to increase by 60 percent from last year and are likely to remain elevated throughout the holiday season.

One of the cyber attack vulnerabilities that researchers are now warning about is the double-edged nature of APIs when it comes to internet-scale B2B connectivity, which was highlighted in USPS’s recent breach.

Setu Kulkarni, VP of strategy and business development at WhiteHat Security, warned that insecure APIs break down the very premise of uber-connectivity they have helped establish, which is why organizations that handle consumer data need to make security a consistent, top-of-mind concern. They should also be obliged to perform the strictest security tests against vulnerable avenues: APIs, network connections, mobile apps, websites and databases.
