Court Order Needed for Access to Nat’l ID Data, DoJ Says

Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Menardo Guevarra assured last week that a citizen’s information in the Philippine Identification System can only be accessed by third parties bearing a court order or the consent of the registered person.

Guevarra added that the national ID system will help prevent Identity theft, make it more difficult to commit crimes and acts of terrorism, and make it easier to identify and locate law offenders.

It was also reported that the PhilSys will have three components: the PhilSys Number (PSN), PhilID and PhilSys Registry, with the PSN being a randomly generated, unique, and permanent identification number for each individual which is to be incorporated in all identification systems of government agencies.
