24 Feb Connected Cars Preparing to Monetize Data, Owners Unaware
According to a report by Chetan Sharma Consulting last Tuesday, there were more new cars added to cellular networks than new cell phones in 2017.
It was noted that AT&T has added a million more new cars to its network each quarter for the last 11 quarters. Another research from Gartner says that 98 percent of new cars will ship with embedded modems this year.
Despite this, a lot of car drivers are still unaware and unconcerned about their car’s data collection. A survey by Solace showed that only around 38% of connected car drivers knew that their cars could store personally identifiable information about them, while 48% were unaware.
