Congress Ratifies National ID System, Ready for President’s Signature

The House of Representatives ratified last Wednesday the bicameral conference committee report on the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) or the national ID system which seeks to provide Filipinos a single means of identification that will replace a number of other government-issued IDs.

The bill is now only waiting for President Duterte’s signature so it can be signed into law, after which it will be managed by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

The National Privacy Commission meanwhile assured that it will make other government agencies adhere to the Data Privacy Act when handling or processing personal data made available through the national ID system.
