Companies, Banks in China Freely Sell Personal Information

Reuters recently revealed that it is now becoming easier and cheaper to personal data in China, based on interviews with various sellers and financiers.

Despite the introduction of the country’s most comprehensive data protection laws to date, it is said that organizations such as insurance companies, banks, loan sharks, and even scammers are able to procure personal data from a number of online sellers from platforms such as Tencent’s QQ and Baidu’s Tieba.

Some sources additionally revealed that customer information is often sold by bank employees, while some internet companies also provide access to sensitive personal information for a fee.
