CNIL Releases Guidelines for Sharing Data with Brokers, Business Partners

French data regulator CNIL (Commission nationale de l’informatique et des libertés) recently issued a new set of rules for those looking to share data with brokers and business partners.

The guidelines emphasize that the consent of the individual whose data will be shared must be obtained before any transmission to partners occur, and the individual should be able to identify from the consent form the parties who will be receiving the data.

It was also clarified that the consent obtained is only valid for the organization collecting the data. Should the partners wish to share the data to another party, they will need to obtain consent again.
