25 Sep Cloudflare Announces Support for Encrypted Server Name Indication
Internet company Cloudflare announced this week that it has rolled out support for encrypted Server Name Indication, which should make it harder to track user browsing activities.
SNI, a component of the TLS protocol, allows a server to present different TLS certificates that validate and secure the connection to websites behind the same IP address. An encrypted SNI protects the SNI bit in transit and is only decrypted at the destination, thus eliminating the risk of exposing the destination name.
Cloudflare now also supports DNS of TLS (DoT) and DNS over HTTPS (DoH) which, in combination with its own DNS resolving service (1.1.1.1), will protect the privacy of DNS queries through encryption.
