Chrome’s “Forced Login” Feature Breaches User Privacy, Expert Says

Johns Hopkins cryptography professor said this week that Google’s new “forced login” feature which was quietly this month erodes user trust as it blurs the clear distinction between “never logged in” and “signed in”.

It was recently reported that the newest version of Chrome automatically logs users into their Google account whenever they visit any Google-owned website, like Gmail and YouTube. While Google engineers clarified that the feature does not sync the user’s data, many still considered it to be a “dark pattern” that may trick users into syncing their data.

Other security experts have echoed the same sentiment as Green, saying that they would probably switch to browsers like Firefox from now on.
