16 Jan CHR: Data Privacy a Human Right
The Commission on Human Rights reminded this week that the right to privacy is under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and called on the government to identify accountabilities and determine penalties under the law to preserve the rights of those affected.
CHR spokesperson Jacqueline Ann de Guia said that the incident posed a particularly grave national security risk given the sensitive nature of the data involved.
The Commission also praised the National Privacy Commission for starting an investigation into the Department of Foreign Affairs breach.
