08 Jun Chinese Users Warned Against Voice Devices Made in China
A Radio Free Asia technology show recently warned Chinese users of the privacy risks carried by voice-controlled smart home devices like Amazon’s Alexa.
Surprisingly, Cantonese service technology journalist Lee Kin-kwan said that users should particularly be wary of such devices that are made in China, as they may be connected to the police. Lee said that an increase in power consumption or unexpected startups may be a sign that the device is being used by someone else.
Lee advised users to use European Union-registered Apple IDs, as they are governed by stricter privacy laws than elsewhere and can largely prevent Chinese authorities from accessing the user’s data.
