16 Aug Chinese Lawyers Call for More Privacy Protections
Chinese lawyers recently said that new legislation was needed at the soonest possible time to enhance privacy protections that will better address problems with spam, unsolicited text messages and identity fraud
Li Ya, a lawyer with Beijing Zhongwen Law Firm, said that there is no rule indicating what punishments violating enterprises will face. Li also said that while moves by tech companies to combat spam are welcome, the solution is to solve privacy leaks by way of legislation.
Yan Chuan meanwhile said that a lot of companies can block or remove users’ unwanted information on their platforms by advanced technology, but choose not to because of current weak laws.
