25 Sep Charter Expresses Support for Uniform Online Privacy Protection Framework
In a hearing by the US Senate Commerce Committee this week, Charter Communication’s senior VP of policy and external affairs Rachel Welch said that they are backing a legislation that would create an opt-in, uniform online privacy protection framework enforced by the Federal Trade Commission.
The US telecoms giant says that the core tenets of the legislation should be control, transparency, uniformity, parity and security, which means the omission of default consents such as pre-ticked boxes or take-it-or-leave-it offers.
The company added that a competitively neutral framework that reflects the principle of parity will not hamper innovation and robust competition.
