17 Jan Car Companies Now Include Location Tracking Agreement in New Leases
It has been reported that car companies such as Honda are now including location tracking agreements in new car leases. Although users may not pay too much attention to this stipulation, privacy experts say that gathering such data may put drivers at risk.
Millions of new cars are now equipped with monitoring technology that not only track location data, but also speed, braking, fuel consumption, and even entertainment data. When asked in an interview what Honda does with the gathered data, Honda spokeswoman Natalie Kumaratne said that they “cannot provide specifics at this time.”
Meanwhile, executive director of the World Privacy Forum Pam Dixon said that a lot of anti-fraud companies and law enforcement agencies are eager to purchase such data which reveals the driver’s most intimate habits.
