Canadian Woman Denied Entry to US for Suicide Attempt

A recent incident where a Canadian woman was declined entry into the US because of her suicide attempt caught the attention of Privacy czar Daniel Thierren.

Thierren blamed the RCMP for inappropriately sharing the info which was in their database, saying that the incident highlighted the need for the government to do a better job protecting personal data. He also added that the federal privacy law and its companion law for the private sector needs to be reformed to bring Canada in line with its international counterparts.

Thierren said that his office, while waiting for legislative changes, will go ahead and make several moves to improve privacy protection.
