Canadian Privacy Watchdog Powers Not Enough, Says UK Official

Addressing a House of Commons Committee tasked with probing the Facebook-Cambridge Analytica scandal, UK Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham said that powers granted to the Canadian privacy watchdog to investigate tech giants have become inadequate compared to its counterparts around the world.

It was noted that Canadian politicians had been struggling to keep up with other jurisdictions such as the EU, which has created stricter privacy rules to compel companies such as Google and Facebook to do more to protect personal information.
