Cambridge Analytica Researcher Responsible for Facebook Data Scraping Speaks Out

In an interview last Monday, the Cambridge University researcher who scraped information on millions of Facebook users aired his side and said that the accusations against him were a little bit misleading.

Aleksandr Kogan said that he did not carry out a hack, but instead merely “ordered” the data from Facebook which was a key feature of the system. He further revealed that Cambridge Analytica approached him in 2014 about his app and said that it will be adapted for commercial use without violating Facebook’s rules.

In relation to his Russian roots and work ties, Kogan added that his accusers are being xenophobic as he only has a loose affiliation with a Russian university and nothing more. He also denied claims that he had anything to do with Russian interference with the US election.
