24 Jan BSP Probes Cebuana Lhuillier Breach
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas said this week that it is looking into Cebuana Lhuiller’s recent data breach which is estimated to have affected around 900,000 customers.
The pawnshop and remittance company said that they detected the breach just last weekend from an email server containing client personal data such as birthdays, addresses, and source of income.
BSP Deputy Governor Chuchi G. Fonacier said that the incident falls under BSP Circular 982 which requires all financial players to to put in place systems that can protect their data from digital attacks through an information security program adequate to the complexity of the organization’s reliance on digital tools.
