British Data Protection Laws Will Stay Aligned with EU’s, Government Says

Reports say that the UK government has hinted that British data protection laws will be kept ‘aligned’ to the EU’s even after Brexit.

Officials have said that there will be continuity with the current rules that govern data protection, and in fact, might allow Britain to work with the EU more closely. Minister for Digital Matt Hancock said that Britain wants the secure flow of data to remain unhindered after leaving the EU.

Last Thursday, the Department for Exiting the European Union released a working paper which included proposals that allow the exchange of personal data between the UK and EU in a ‘safe and properly regulated way’.
