07 Aug Avast Pulls Latest CCleaner Version After Privacy Backlash
Piriform, the company behind CCleaner, recently said that it will be rolling back the latest version of the system cleaning tool to v5.44 after receiving significant user backlash triggered by its new data collection policy.
Users complained that it was not possible to deactivate v5.45’s Active Monitoring feature, and the free version lacked any privacy controls. It was also only possible to terminate the app using the Task Manager.
The Avast-owned company then decided to pull the version instead after users were left unsatisfied by the company’s promises to implement key changes in future versions.
