Austrian Privacy Activist Files Complaints Against Google, Facebook for Forced Consent

Austrian activist Max Schrems, who has already been previously involved in a legal battle with Facebook, has recently filed complaints against Google, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp for using a “take it or leave it” approach when imposing their terms of service on users.

According to Schrems, the tech companies are breaching the people’s right under the GDPR by giving them a limited choice of accepting intrusive terms of service or lose access.

Andrea Jelinek, head of Austria’s Data Protection Authority and the European Data Protection Board agreed with Schrems in a news conference in Brussels, saying that there is no real consent if it is forced.
