30 Sep Australian Privacy Commissioner Releases Guidelines for Announcing Data Breach
Feedback from the public has been sought by the Office of the Australian Information and Privacy Commissioner (OAIC) after it has released another draft for Australia’s notification laws on data breach.
Included in the draft were guidelines in preparing an eligible statement in the event of a data breach, assessing a probable breach, and means of notifying the OAIC of the occurrence among others.
The Australian Privacy Act 1988 covers the new laws in the Privacy Amendment (Notifiable Breaches Act) which require affected individuals who are at risk to be notified by organizations in the event of a data breach.
