23 Nov Australian PM Wants Encryption-Busting Bill by Next Sitting Fortnight
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said this week that he wants the proposed Assistance and Access Bill through Parliament in the next sitting fortnight.
Echoling the PM’s sentiments, Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton likewise said that it was unacceptable for police to be unable to read encrypted messages.
Dutton also said that Opposition Leader Bill Shorten has to decide whether he is on the side Silicon Valley’s big tech or with Australian law enforcement and intelligence agencies who want to protect Australians. The Home Affairs minister is also pushing for more taxes for tech giants, as they have breached user privacy for commercial advantage.
