Australian Health Record System Hit with 42 Breaches in 2018


The Australian Digital Health Agency reported this week that My Health Record had been breached 42 times in between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018, but there were no malicious attacks involved.

The ADHA said that three of the breaches had been reported to the OAIC, with one being an unauthorized access due to an incorrect Parental Authorised Representative being assigned to a child, and two suspected Medicare fraud. Seventeen were from the Department of Human Services involving intertwined records of two or more people using the same Medicare record. Meanwhile, 22 breaches from attempted Medicare fraud were found to have unauthorized claims which incorrectly in the My Health Record of affected users.
