14 Dec ASD-Director General Dispels Fake News on Encryption Bill
ASD Director-General Mike Burgess clarified this week several inaccuracies being circulated on Australia’s new encryption bill.
Burgess said that it was absurd to compare Huawei, which the ASD urged the government to ban, to Australian companies and clarified that the government will be seeking highly-targeted assistance under the TOLA [ Telecommunications and Other Legislation Amendment (Assistance and Access) Act 2018] Act.
He added that Australia is not the first to enact such a law, and it is flawed to think that Australian companies would be forced offshore because of it.
