05 Apr Apple’s Hiring of Google AI Chief Seen to Impact Siri’s Privacy Stance
Earlier this week, Apple announced that it had hired former Google Assistant architect John Giannandrea to further Siri’s development. Observers have noted that the move could have a significant impact on the privacy protections of Apple’s smart assistant.
It is said that Giannandrea’s biggest challenge would be Apple’s commitment to privacy. Experts note that Apple’s differential privacy is a more difficult approach that Google’s in terms of AI and machine learning since personal interactions stay on the device and collected data has to be mixed with randomized noise to make individual information anonymous and untraceable.
However, Giannandrea will be put at the top level position in Siri’s division which had previously been unoccupied. This means that there will now be greater dedication and attention to the development of Apple’s AI assistant.
