Apple Cracks Down on Privacy Violating iOS Apps

Apple is reportedly moving to purge iOS apps that breach the company’s privacy policy, such as those that share the location data of their users to third parties without explicit consent.

Meanwhile, developers who violate sections 5.1.1 and 5.1.2 of the App Store Review Guidelines will be notified that their app has been removed for re-evaluation. According to the guidelines, an app will be considered non-compliant if it “transmits user location data to third parties without explicit consent from the user and for unapproved purposes.”  User @Thomasbcn tweeted a sample of the warning message.

It was noted that Apple’s effort comes just three weeks before the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation that is set to take effect this month.
