16 Nov AMIA Seeks Better Coordination of Data Privacy Rules
The American Medical Informatics Association recently urged the Trump administration to update and harmonize the HIPAA and the Common Rule to cope with today’s changing privacy climate.
The AMIA says that a more integrated approach is needed on how policies aimed at both the “health sector” and “consumer sector” are defined.
AMIA CEO Doug Fridsma said that as the line between consumer and medical information systems and devices continues to blur, the government must craft concordant privacy policies across both health and consumer data ecosystems. The group is currently seeking on how consumer privacy and technological innovation can both be advanced.
