06 Jun Amazon’s Alexa, Google Duplex Expected to Bring New Privacy Concerns
Smart voice gadgets such as Amazon’s Alexa and Google Duplex were recently put under the spotlight due to the increasing number of privacy-related issues that have cropped up in the past few months. The systems, which are capable of complex conversations without human involvement, are expected by users and experts to give rise to new privacy ramifications.
Voice technology expert Peter Cahill says that the capabilities of Google’s Duplex raises ethical questions since Google will be able to collect data from the person at the other end without needing consent at any point and store it in the cloud.
However, Google says that like one’s search history, users can delete their data and histories from Google Assistant. A spokesperson added that the company considers transparency in technology to be important which is why Duplex was designed with disclosure built-in.
