AI May Soon be Used for Identifying Child Abuse Images

It was recently revealed that the UK’s Metropolitan Police is running a pilot scheme where artificial intelligence is used to trawl and identify child abuse images.

The scheme seeks to take the traumatic task off the hands of officers. However, the AI system is still prone to bugs. In several instances it mistakenly tagged images of deserts as pornography.

The system being developed by the Met’s digital forensics department could soon go into full service in 2 to 3 years, according to the department’s head Mark Stokes.
