ADGM Now a Participant in Global Privacy and Data Protection Conversation

The Observer status has recently been granted to the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) Registration Authority, making it the first and only International Financial Centre (IFC) and data protection regulator with such status in the Middle East and North Africa region (MENA). With it, ADGM can now participate in the closed sessions of the International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners (ICDPPC) to discuss and share knowledge on data protection and privacy developments and issues.

Dino Wilkinsons, a partner at the Abu Dhabi-based law firm Clyde & Co, said that the emerging data protection laws and regulatory regimes, especially those aligned to international best practices, such as those found in ADGM offer certainty that corporate clients greatly welcome.

The ADGM is slated to make further enhancements to several items in its Data Protection Regulations of 2015 to offer more clarity and effectiveness of the regime.
