23 Aug AccuWeather iOS Sends Back Data Even When Disallowed Access to GPS
Reports last Tuesday revealed that iOS weather app AccuWeather sends back data to a third party data monetization company even if restricted access to the device’s GPS.
Data including GPS coordinates, current speed and altitude, Wi-Fi router name and BSSID, and bluetooth status are sent to RevealMobile.com, which sells the information to parties that need audience insights for their location-based advertising.
The report also stated that RevealMobile’s technology is able to determine a user’s frequented locations such as home and work.
