09 Jul AA Admits Accidentally Leaking Customer Info
After reports of a data breach from UK car insurance AA, the motoring company confesses to negligence which caused the accidental data leak.
AA admits on Friday that client names, phone numbers, postal and email addresses, and even partial credit card numbers and hashed account passwords are included in the exposed information sheet online.
In June, the company emails customers informing them that their passwords have been reset. AA then insisted their data is secure and email was a false alarm resulting from an IT issue.
Then this week, AA.com confesses to the unintentional leak that included credit card expiry dates and IP addresses of shoppers. About 120,000 accounts amounting to 13GBs worth of back up data were accidentally made public.
