23andMe to End Developer Access to Customer Genetic Data

Genetic testing company 23andMe informed its third-party developers last Thursday that they will no longer be able to access the raw genetic information of customers.

The firm said that they will be disabling the API in two weeks and that apps will only be able to use reports generated by the company instead of the hard data. However, raw data will still be available to research partners.

The company added that they will now only be partnering with developers that build applications that can use data based on 23andMe reports.
