Over 200 Government Websites Found With Information Linked to Aadhaar

Authorities were informed last Wednesday that roughly 210 websites involving state and central government offices have posted information exposing names, addresses, and numbers of Aadhaar beneficiaries.

According to Minister of State for Electronics and IT PP Chaudhary, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has attended to the situation and is diligently tracking the Aadhaar data to make sure that it is taken down from the sites.

To clarify, Chaudhary also said that Aadhaar data has not been leaked by the UIDAI. He explains that private enterprises have not taken any Aadhaar information such as biometrics, and data sharing is only made using recognized protocols within designated offices.

Aadhaar data sharing is restricted through the Aadhaar Act, 2016 which is geared towards delivery of financial assets. In July 13, authorities have informed central departments to recognize the Aadhaar number as a mandatory identification that will allow people to claim their financial benefits.
