06 Apr Zuckerberg: Facebook will be Offering GDPR Protections Everywhere
In an interview earlier this week, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg refuted a Reuters story which said that his company will not be providing GDPR privacy standards to other countries that use the social network.
Zuckerberg clarified that Facebook will have the same privacy controls everywhere and not just in Europe. Even though it may not be in the same format, the same controls and settings will be made available in all territories, but they need to figure out first what makes sense in different markets with different laws.
However, critics have pointed out that the settings and controls Zuckerberg were pertaining to may not necessarily mean that the company will be implementing the GDPR’s rules around data control, consent, data portability, the right to be forgotten, and the right to know how the user’s data is being processed.
