Whois Data Should Not be Public Says Dutch Privacy Watchdog

Dutch privacy regulator Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens recently issued an opinion on web domain whois data, saying that it should not be made public.

In a case involving a .amsterdam and .frl domain, AP said that extensive personal details such as the name, address, email and phone number of domain name holders should be kept private.

EU regulatory body Article 29 Working Party agreed with AP and said that there was no reason why the information should be publicly viewable. Icann, on the other hand, requested that the details remain public.
