07 Sep Users Cannot Decline Sharing of Personal Data in New Verizon Rewards Program
Reports have revealed that subscribers will be required to share their personal data in US telco Verizon’s new reward program.
The data collected will be used for the company’s ad-targeting program, which they state in a disclaimer on the signup page. Tech observers believe that this is a ploy to squeeze out more money from the carrier’s stagnating subscriber base.
Revenue from Verizon’s core wireless business has also seen a decline in the past two years, which may confirm that the company is moving towards greater data harvesting for monetization purposes, on top of providing connectivity.
